Nine capital projects proposed for Guernsey in 2012

Bowel cancer screening is among nine projects the States of Guernsey has been asked to fund from 2012.

The proposals, totalling £1.4m, are part of a number set out in the States Strategic Plan for 2011-2016.

The plan is aimed at ensuring policy and financial planning work hand in hand.

The money for the project is expected to come from forecasted efficiency savings made during 2011 as part of the Financial Transformation Programme.

The five year project, which is due to run until October 2014, has been estimated at delivering a total saving of £31.8m, with £11.1 coming from improved business practices and £7.5m from sharing services across departments.

Deputy Charles Parkinson, the chair of the States Strategic Plan team, said it had come a long way since it was implemented in 2009.

He said: "Financial controls and financial records still need to be improved to ensure the cost-effective use of public money."

The projects the States has been asked to fund are:

• Bowel cancer screening - £328,000

• Review funding and organisation of Health and Social Care Services - £235,000

• Respite service for adults with learning disabilities - £211,000

• Family and Friends Care - £206,000

• Implementation of Competition Law - £200,000

• Restorative Justice Service - £57,000

• Support for the Guernsey Training Agency - £30,000

• Hansard service for States meetings - £20,000
