Guernsey aircraft register will be set up

Working with Jersey would mitigate the costs and risks associated with setting up an aircraft registry, the States of Guernsey has decided.

Deputies approved plans, which will allow planes to be registered locally, and agreed that if possible a Channel Island register should be created.

The move could potentially generate millions of pounds for the economy.

Deputy Marc Laine said it was a big market place and both islands would be able to reap the benefits.

The registry itself has been estimated to potentially make Guernsey £18m in three years.

It has also been suggested it could be used to attract high net worth individuals to make use of the islands' fiduciary services.

Proposals for a joint registry will be sent to the States of Jersey.
