Guernsey disabled parking 'will not change'

  • Published

Guernsey will not be following the UK in introducing a new system of badges for disabled parking, the Environment Department has said.

A new style photo card will be introduced nationally from 1 January.

It follows abuse of the system in the UK and the electronically-printed card has been designed as part of a crackdown against fraud.

The department said there were no similar problems with fake or stolen badges in the island.

For this reason it said it had no plans, at this stage, to introduce the security features, which include holograms, photos and serial numbers, that would add cost to producing the badges.

The department said it had been reassured by the UK authorities that the Guernsey badge would continue to be accepted in the UK when used by visiting local disabled badge holders.
