Sure blocks external access to Guernsey email accounts

Internet provider Sure has blocked external access to its email accounts, in a bid to put a stop to spam attacks.

The company said anyone trying to access an '@cwgsy.net' from a non-Sure broadband connection would be unable to do so for around four days.

Sure said it had come under attack from an excessive amount of spam emails from a source outside the island.

A spokesperson said the problem was due partly to customers not choosing secure passwords.

Sure said that by blocking external access to email it would be able to protect the majority of customers at the cost of some disruption to a minority.

The move will affect anybody trying to check email from the UK or abroad, as well as by using other local broadband providers.
