Channel Islands' undersea power cable is taken offline

The undersea electricity cable serving Guernsey and Jersey has been taken out of action following a power cut.
The islands' power companies will generate all power locally until the connection to France is restored.
Guernsey Electricity said experts were working to find out the cause of the fault, which had led to the switching off of the cable's protection system.
It said the undersea cable, which links Guernsey and Jersey to France, could be out of service for a number of weeks.
Guernsey suffered a power cut on Sunday, 29 April during which local generators were switched on to compensate for the loss of the cable connection.
The manufacturer of the cable had been contacted.
