Athlete Lee Merrien has taken up an ambassador role for a Guernsey charity.

The marathon runner will help to promote Male Uprising in Guernsey (Mug), which aims to raise awareness of prostate, testicular and bowel cancer.

Mr Merrien said: "It's the only charity that's approached me to do something like this and I'm more than happy to create awareness."

Tony Tostevin, trustee of Mug, said Merrien's place in the GB Olympics squad would help the charity.

He added: "What we're trying to achieve is to raise £250,000 over three years, and it's primarily to educate and inform men about male cancer."
