Jason Moriarty has been appointed as chief officer of Guernsey's Commerce and Employment Department.

He has temporarily held the post since Jon Buckland left to take over as chief officer of the Education Department in January.

Mr Moriarty, 38, was born and raised in the island, has worked for the States since 1996 and last year was appointed tourism and marketing director.

He said he was "very much looking forward" to taking on the role.

The department's portfolio includes economic development and regulation, marketing and tourism, employment relations, agriculture and horticulture, fisheries and aviation.

Commerce and Employment Minister Kevin Stewart said: "His energy, enthusiasm and knowledge of the department's mandate will ensure we can deliver on some extremely important projects over the coming months and years."
