States of Alderney 2012 election nominations close

Nominations have closed for the States of Alderney's 2012 Ordinary Election with 12 candidates standing.

Five seats in the States of Alderney are available, with each carrying a four-year term of office.

The five States members whose terms have ended are: Peter Allen, John Beaman, Boyd Kelly, Geoffrey Sargent and Bill Walden.

Voting is due to take place at the Island Hall between 09:30-18:30 GMT on 17 November.

Out of the population of 2,111, according to figures from March 2011, a total of 1,109 islanders have signed up to the electoral roll, which closed on 2 November.

The island's government is made up of 10 States members and the president, who only votes in the event of a tie.

Half of the States members positions are elected every two years as each States member serves for a four-year term.

In the last election in 2010 there were also 12 candidates for the five seats.

Caroline Ely, Ken Hampton, Neil Harvey, Martin Hunt, Louis Jean, Boyd Kelly, Helen Martin, Lin Maurice, Robert McDowall, Chris Rowley, Francis Simonet and Bill Walden.
