Sark Chief Pleas election polls close

Polls have closed in Sark's third general election since electoral reform was introduced in 2008.

Voting started at 10:00 GMT at the island's only polling station at the Island Hall and closed at 18:00.

Half of the Chief Pleas' 28 seats are being contested by 22 candidates and the 14 who are successful will be eligible to serve for four years.

The results are expected at about 22:00, but if there is a recount they may not be available until Thursday.

Sir Norman Browse, the former president of the States of Alderney, has been invited to monitor the election process as an independent observer.

Over the past few days he has been examining the information given to islanders about the election.

On election day he is scrutinising the voting and counting process.
