No smoking ban for Jersey prison, says governor

Jersey La Moye prison will not introduce a smoking ban, according to the prison's governor.

Bill Millar said a tobacco ban introduced at Guernsey's Les Nicolles prison on 1 January would not be mirrored in Jersey.

The law in Jersey states that inmates may smoke in prison as a prison cell is classed as a private space.

Guernsey banned tobacco products for staff and inmates in all parts of the island's prison.
