A £24m mental health centre will be built in Guernsey with a view to opening in 2015.

The Health and Social Services Department said it would allow all the necessary facilities to be housed in one site.

The new centre on the grounds of the Princess Elizabeth Hospital will replace the Castel Hospital.

Deputies also agreed a strategy aimed at improving the mental wellbeing of islanders.

It is due to be taken on by a new steering group set up by the Education, Health, Home, Housing and Social Security departments.
