Guernsey Airport work 'put back five days' by snow

Work on Guernsey's £81m airfield project has been set back by about five days because of weather conditions.

Heavy snow and strong winds battered the island on Monday and Tuesday, causing a build up of snow at, and around, Guernsey Airport.

Gerry Prickett, project manager for the drainage and surface improvement works, said workers had diverted their efforts to clearing the runway of snow.

He said the five-day delay to work would not cause a long-term impact.

He added contingency plans had been put in place to deal with the impact of weather on the redevelopment.

Mr Prickett said the impact on the budget for the scheme would also be small.

Guernsey Airport was closed for nearly three days after blizzards hit the island.

A spokesman for the airport said more than 15,000 tonnes of snow had to be removed from the runway before flights could resume.
