Guernsey unemployment rises slightly

The number of people out of work in Guernsey continues to rise.

At the end of April, 455 people were registered as unemployed, which is 28 more than March and 20 more than a 15-year high recorded in June last year.

The Social Security Department said this represented 1.4% of the working population.

It said an extra 193 people in full or part-time work were given supplementary benefit on top of their earnings and a further 34 were on training schemes.

The department said nine people were registered as unemployed in Alderney.
