Guernsey tourism targeting younger tourists

Guernsey tourism is targeting younger people with a new advertising campaign.

A video by Visit Guernsey showcases beach-based activities and local cuisine in efforts to appeal to young professionals.

Director for Marketing and Tourism, Chris Carter, said it was a small but important part of the plan to increase visitor numbers.

But bed and breakfast owner Davina Sweet said not enough was being done to support smaller businesses.

"Too much focus is being given to promoting the larger hotels in Guernsey. It has been a particularly hard year, especially on smaller bed and breakfasts like mine," she said.

"This is not what we want in Guernsey, they might be doing a really good job for the larger hotels but at the smaller end this is not what we want."

Mr Carter said the campaign was in addition to its main campaign.

He said: "We have got three additional campaigns targeting the early part of the year, the latter part of the year and targeting affluent 30 something's in the London area for short breaks."
