A UK-based trouble shooter brought into to look at Guernsey's health service has had his contract extended.
The Policy Council hired Graham Smith, who it said had worked for a number of primary care trusts and royal colleges, to look at issues including staff shortages and operations being delayed.
His one-month contract began on 10 June, but has now been extended a further two weeks.
The council would not reveal the cost of his appointment.
In 2012, the department overspent by £2.2m and led to the resignation of the political board of the Health and Social Services Department.
Last month the department's chief officer did not have his contract renewed and has been replaced on a temporary basis by Malcolm Nutley, the chief officer of the Social Security Department.
