Guernsey Health Department survives no confidence vote

Guernsey's Health and Social Services Department (HSSD) board has survived a vote of no confidence by a large majority.

Deputies voted 10 in favour of removing the board and 34 against.

Deputy Allister Langlois voted against the motion and said: "It is time to let HSSD get on with the job."

The department came under fire for giving the States inaccurate information on the island's bowel cancer screening programme last year.

Deputy Hadley, a former member of the HSSD, originally approached the States to ask for the vote.

He had criticised the department, and health minister Mark Dorey, for poor financial management, staff recruitment and for allowing surgical wards to remain closed for months.

Deputy Dorey maintained he never knowingly misled the States.

Afterwards deputies voted to elect a new member of the HSSD board following the resignation of Deputy Sandra James.

Al Brouard won by three votes against Mike Hadley.
