Deputy Allister Langlois has announced that he intends to run for chief minister of Guernsey, following the resignation of Deputy Peter Harwood.
Deputy Harwood stood down after a Private Eye article criticised him over his former role as Channel Island Stock Exchange director.
Nominations are open until 6 March, before the election on 12 March.
Deputy Lyndon Trott, former chief minister, has not ruled himself out of running.
Deputy Chief Minister Jonathan Le Tocq and Deputy Mary Lowe are also considering standing for the position.
