The first cable, which was installed in 2000, was out of action for six months in 2012

Work to lay a second undersea electricity cable between Guernsey and Jersey is expected to start next year after the project got States backing.

The £45m loan Guernsey Electricity needs for the project will be loaned or guaranteed by the States of Guernsey.

The cable will be used to import electricity from the French grid, via Jersey.

It is being built to improve security after concerns the current cable could fail like it did in 2012.
