The achievements of two brothers are being marked by Guernsey's fifth blue plaque.

John Herbert Le Patourel was a leader in the field of medieval studies, a professor at the University of Leeds and a fellow of the British Academy.

His younger brother Herbert was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions in Tunisia during World War Two.

It is to be unveiled at their former home Villa Magnol in the Fosse Andre later.

The plaques commemorate a link between a location and a significant person or event, serving as a historical marker.

Plans to honour the brothers were submitted earlier this year, followed by a public consultation.

Herbert Patourel was awarded the Victoria Cross on 9 March 1943 after he led four volunteers in an attack on several machine gun posts, continuing the assault on his own after the others had been killed or injured.

Helen Glencross, secretary to the blue plaque panel, said "I've had so many positive comments from all sorts of people about the brothers. I've been quite surprised by the level of interest."

The nomination was made by distant relative and panel member, Edith Le Patourel.
