Boxing Day dip hailed success for Guernsey Cheshire Home

Guernsey's Boxing Day Swim has raised £5,500 for Guernsey Cheshire Home.

Hundreds raced into the sea at the annual event, which is reported to have been better attended than previous years due to mild weather.

The charity, which homes adults with severe disabilities, is the only home in the British Isles not to receive government funding.

It has previously faced closure over a lack of money.

Alex Jenner, a spokeswoman for the home, said the amount raised was "good going" and will be used to pay for general running costs.

She said: "A mystery donor turned up to watch the dip and gave a donation of £1,500 - which is amazing."

One swimmer said the sea - at 11C (52F) - didn't feel "too bad" this year.

Some people came dressed as 'Minions' from the animated film, which was the fancy dress theme this year for the sixteenth swim at Cobo Bay.

The first two residents moved in to Guernsey Cheshire Home in 1987, and there are currently 11 permanent residents.
