Neil Inder has been elected to the States of Guernsey in the Vale by-election.

He secured 685 of the 1,724 votes, finishing ahead of Garry Collins, Simon De La Mare and Rick Lowe.

The seat became vacant after the death of Guernsey political stalwart Deputy Dave Jones in July.

The successful candidate, who is due to serve in the States until June 2020, was congratulated by his family after the result was announced.

He said: "I'm going to be hard working, my expertise is transport and the tourist economy, but I may well grow into other roles as I gain experience."

Results:

  • Garry Collins 560

  • Simon De La Mare 143

  • Neil Inder 685

  • Richard Lowe 317

The turnout to vote was 33.59% of the total electorate.
