St Peter Port: World War Two bomb detonated

A second World War Two bomb has been detonated after being found in the undersea crater left by a bomb disposed of by Royal Navy divers the day before.

Local divers in Guernsey found the new anti-submarine bomb in the seabed on Tuesday, Guernsey Harbours said.

Both anti-submarine bombs were found about 1,800ft (550m) north east of the entrance to St Peter Port Harbour.

The Royal Navy bomb disposal team detonated the second bomb on Wednesday at about 09:15 BST.

A 650ft (200m) exclusion zone had been set up around the newly discovered explosive device.

It is the third piece of unexploded ordnance found on Guernsey's east coast in the past six months, with the Royal Navy bomb disposal team called to detonate a WW2 bomb in November.
