Sark Liberation Day organisers said communal tables were helping keep wartime stories alive

The island of Sark has been marking 78 years of liberation from German forces during World War Two.

The Channel Islands were occupied from 1940 until 9 May 1945, with Sark liberated a day later.

Residents from Jersey and Guernsey celebrated on Tuesday with different events happening on the two islands.

A gathering was held on Sark at 12:00 GMT in front of the Island Hall, with children from the local school performing war-time songs.

Organiser Charlie Jones said it was "not a huge celebration" but it was still important to mark the event.

She said: "I know that the older generation were only children when Sark was liberated.

"But they had stories from their grandparents ... and passing those stories on to children today around a communal table is exactly what we want to do to keep that alive."
