The app will replace the mobile version of the buses.gg website currently in use.

A new smartphone app is being launched for Guernsey's buses.

Passengers will be able to use it to track buses and plan journeys based on their exact live location.

It will also save information like favourite stops and school bus routes, as well as provide an up-to-date list of roadworks.

The bus company CT Plus, and its parent company Towertransit, based it on similar apps used in other regions and cities.

Kevin Jackman, operations manager, said: "It's great to see that the buses on the live map now also show their direction of travel."

"The ability to simply position your current location will also be a bonus to those visiting the island or exploring areas of Guernsey they may not be familiar with."

It is hoped the new app will encourage more people to use the buses.

Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, president of environment and infrastructure, said: "It's a great way to reduce our carbon emissions, given that transport generates more greenhouse gases than any other source in the island.

"Being able to track live bus locations and plan your route will make this a more viable travel option for more islanders and visitors alike," she said.

The app is called buses.gg and available from the App Store or Google Play.
