Sailings from Portsmouth to Guernsey and Jersey will now start on 20 October

Condor Ferries has delayed the first planned sailing of its new boat to Guernsey and Jersey.

The Islander ferry was scheduled to run a freight-only service on Sunday 8 October, and then take passengers a week later.

It will now start the crossings from Portsmouth on the 20 October instead, in time for the half-term holiday.

It is down to the operator waiting for a piece of equipment that needs to be installed.

The company had already brought forward the start date, so is still ahead of original plans.

Passengers rebooked

A spokesperson said: "We are making very good progress with the rest of the refurbishment of the vessel.

"Around 70 tradespeople are currently on board installing a duty free shop, altering overnight cabin configurations and refreshing the passenger lounges."

They said any passengers booked in for sailings that will now not be operating have been contacted and moved to alternative crossings.
