Change in Alderney liaison following 'hostile' comment
- Published
Alderney has a new point of contact on the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).
Previously Dr Gilly Carr helped to represent the island's interests.
She will now only liaise with Guernsey and Jersey, after having to apologise for calling Alderney residents "hostile" at a seminar.
IHRA aims to promote Holocaust education, remembrance and research by bringing together governments and experts.
Lord Pickles, the United Kingdom's post holocaust issues envoy, confirmed following the "unfortunate comments" Alderney will now communicate with his chief of staff Sally Seeley.
He said "it does seem sensible in order to move things forward", but confirmed Dr Carr would continue to be involved in the alliance as she was an "international expert and very highly regarded by IHRA".
Dr Carr is one of 11 experts on a panel, external reviewing files from archives across Europe to determine an accurate number of people who died on Alderney during the Nazi occupation.
