Numbers of prescriptions and pharmacy service costs rose in 2022 compared to 2021 in Guernsey, a report shows.

Prescription numbers rose by 1.2% in 2022 to 1.6 million and the cost of pharmacy services came to £21.77m, up by 0.5%, the Committee for Health & Social Care's report says.

Prescribing adviser Geraldine O'Riordan asked patients to help "reduce medicine wastage" with their prescriptions.

"I would appeal to islanders to cross off unwanted items," she said.

"If a medicine has been completely stopped, it is very important to tell your doctor so that it will not be prescribed next time.

"If your prescription is kept on file in the pharmacy, please tell the staff that you have stopped or have enough of that medicine this month, when you ask for it to be dispensed."
