Air traffic control permission may be needed for some displays

Anyone planning a firework display near Guernsey Airport is being asked to register their event.

Guernsey Airport said even small-scale displays could distract or confuse pilots and large fireworks could potentially damage planes.

Those which fall in the high-risk category may need permission from air traffic control, it added.

The airport would like large displays or those taking place nearby to complete a form on its website, external.

Any firework within within three nautical miles (5.5km), or along the line extending from the centreline of the runway out to Pleinmont and Fermain Bay, or any fireworks reaching above 400 feet (120m) would be considered high risk.

Guernsey Airport is also reminding people it is an offence to use maritime emergency flares at firework display.

It said any reports of flare sightings would be investigated by Guernsey Coastguard.
