An accessible Christmas carol service is being held for people on Guernsey living with dementia.

The service, set to take place at St Saviours Church on Thursday afternoon, is designed to provide families with an opportunity to enjoy festivities with loved ones in a "safe environment".

The first such carol service on the island was held in 2019, Dementia Friendly Guernsey said.

Charity trustee Julie Bullpit said the impact of music was "powerful".

She said: "Christmas carols, I think everybody will have their own favourite but they'll also remember them.

"A few years ago, somebody was sitting there and they didn't have any communication, yet they sang Away In A Manger.

"People around them were in tears, they hadn't spoken and yet they sang."

The service was set to take place at 14:00 GMT.
