Guernsey red wind warning: Islanders warned to stay inside
- Published
A red weather warning for wind has been issued for the Channel Islands today.
Guernsey police have said the strong winds and rain could cause risk to people and properties on the island.
A red warning is the highest alert level, with the potential for the weather to develop into an F10 storm with gusts of up to 65kts (74mph) this evening.
In a post on social media Bailiwick Law Enforcement advised people to "avoid exposed parts of the island".
'Drive cautiously'
Police said: "We'd advise people to avoid outside activities this evening during the height of the weather.
"Please also be careful when travelling home from work. If you're on the roads, drive cautiously and adjust your speed for the weather conditions.
"As usual, we'd advise people to check their gardens and ensure loose furniture is tied down or brought inside."
Jersey Met Office's wind warning service issued the alert at about 09:00 GMT, with the F10 storm rating predicted to develop in the following 6-12 hours.
Islanders are advised to follow the advice of the authorities.
