A new custody healthcare provider has begun work in Guernsey.

PHL Group was awarded the contract to work with Bailiwick Law Enforcement last year following a tender process.

Staff have been recruited locally by PHL to deliver the service, with only one person employed from the UK, said officials.

PHL group already provides custody healthcare services within the City of London, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Ruari Hardy, Head of Law Enforcement, said: "Health and safeguarding is important for any person in our community, but for those who find themselves in our detention the provision of appropriate, timely and professional healthcare is a vital part of our service delivery.

"We are very fortunate to be able to draw upon their [PHL] experience, working within custody in forces across the UK."
