New road markings are to be introduced on two coastal roads in Guernsey to improve safety for pedestrians.

The States said a new 1.3m (4.2ft) pedestrian walkway would be painted along Rue des Bordeaux and Castle Road to give walkers more space.

It said a bollard would also be installed on the junction between the two roads.

The changes are to be introduced "soon" following community feedback, officials said.

The junction markings and lines in the centre of the road will also be adjusted to accommodate the changes.

Mark Brockway, Guernsey's senior traffic officer, said: "Improving road safety for all road users, particularly those who are vulnerable, is one of our main priorities.

"Creating a space for walking which is separate from the rest of the road will undoubtedly improve road safety."
