A nature trail has reopened after it was closed due to storm damage, Guernsey Water has said.

Millennium Walk, a 3km nature trial around Guernsey reservoir, closed in November 2023 after Storm Ciaran.

Guernsey Water said it did not know the exact number of trees that had been brought down by the storm, but estimated it was about 30.

The firm said replanting had begun "with native species chosen to replace the non-native pines".

Tree surgeons were "incredibly busy" amid the storm and during the other winter storms, Guernsey Water said.

To further enhance its biodiversity, the trees that came down have been left to biodegrade.

The firm hopes this will encourage hundreds of species of beetles, moths, other invertebrates as well as fungi, mosses, and lichens to flourish.

Customer services manager Tania Sargent said: "Tree surgeons have now completed their work and everyone at Guernsey Water is really happy it can be a public, community asset as we know how much it means to people."
