There are hopes more bunkers at Fort Hommet could be restored and reopened by the end of the year.

New funding from the States means Festung Guernsey is working on refurbishing the German defences.

The group has been awarded a grant from the Tourism Development Fund.

Paul Bourgaize, from Festung Guernsey, said they were in the process of getting a planning application ready and were looking to open both entrances.

"We will make them safe with fencing and doors," he said.

"That way the public can then see the interior and see how it functioned."
