Inquiries into the cause of a fire that broke out at a Guernsey restaurant are "ongoing", police say.

Emergency services attended the Octopus Restaurant in Havelet Bay, St Peter Port, where the fire started at about 04:10 GMT on Saturday, external.

Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was, "in the main", extinguished by Saturday evening.

However, some "smouldering embers" were identified in the night, and a crew returned to dampen down the area.

The fire service said: "An initial assessment of the structure and the scene of the incident was carried out on Sunday morning.

It added a first full examination of the building would take place on Monday, "alongside emergency service colleagues and other stakeholders".
