Disposable vapes and the sale of all vapes to under 18s could soon be banned in Guernsey.

The Committee for Health and Social Care (HSC) has made the recommendations, external to create a "healthier environment for children and young people".

The HSC is also proposing to make it an offence to smoke in vehicles carrying children.

It said it was "concerning" that children appeared to be targeted by packaging and flavouring of vapes.

The long-term risks of vaping in children and young people were unknown said the committee.

According to the Guernsey Young People's Survey in 2022, external, 38% of secondary age students surveyed reported that they had tried vaping and 10% said they vaped regularly.

Director of Public Health, Dr Nicola Brink, said: "Vapes have proven to be useful in helping some adults give up smoking, but their use in children is not recommended.

"It is concerning to see that the packaging and flavouring of many of these products appear to be targeting children, so I hope the proposal to ban their sale to under 18s is supported."
