A report commissioned by the States will guide future development and infrastructure

The States of Alderney has unveiled a long-term vision for the Braye Harbour area.

The report commissioned by the States will guide future development and infrastructure.

'The Braye Opportunity Area Master Plan', was formed after stakeholder workshops and consultations with people who live in the area.

The plan is in partnership with the commercial and business community, investors and developers.

The report details reconfigured harbour uses, new leisure and tourism facilities, retail and hospitality opportunities, as well as diverse employment.

'Exciting and inspiring'

Chair of the General Services Committee (GSC), Lin Maurice, said: "It provides us with a clear vision of what the area could look like in the future and gives us greater clarity on how to unlock those opportunities to improve the prosperity of the island.

"This is an exciting and inspiring vision that we want to share with everyone on the island.

"It is respectful of the area's character and the special uniqueness of Alderney will not be compromised in any proposed development."

Ms Maurice added the intention was to "future proof our social, environmental, economic and commercial resilience and prosperity".

'Enormous potential'

It is hoped the development can help the tourism industry by encouraging people to explore the island's heritage and history.

Andrew Kissick from Cycle & Surf in Alderney said: "I think the plans have got to be commended, but I think they're very ambitious.

"The plan is huge in concept and vastly expensive, but I think they're absolutely correct the actual area is the perfect place for development - there's enormous potential."

There will be a public drop-in at the Island Hall's Anne French Room on Saturday 27 April, for residents to contribute to the consultation.
