Wheels for You offers a safe and car-free route for people to try out

A Guernsey not-for-profit has launched a new project aimed at improving access to cycling.

It said the project, called Wheels for You, helped people who had trouble cycling by providing them with adapted tricycles and bicycles.

The free event will take place every fortnight at Les Beaucamps High School beginning on Sunday.

Caroline Barby, sport inclusion officer at the States, said participants could enjoy a safe and car-free route.

"We have got a small fleet of trikes that have been kindly donated and funded from various entities," she said.

"No matter the reason you're not able to cycle anymore, whether that is due to balance, confidence or different physical disabilities, we might be able to help."

Ms Barby said a "variety of trikes" were available - including individual trikes, side by side trikes, and one capable of being mounted by a wheelchair.

She said she saw similar events taking place in the UK and noticed they could be beneficial to Guernsey.

"It inspires the community to engage through volunteering because we are going to use volunteers and using sport and physical activity to improve health, mental health and wellbeing," she said.
