A committee in Guernsey is to form a panel to consider the recruitment and retention of public sector workers in the island.

The panel will include representation from members of the scrutiny management committee and government.

According to the States of Guernsey, employee pay costs formed its largest single area of expenditure..

The costs were 35.5% of the total expenditure of £809.7m, for a paid work force of 4,904 full time staff.

Deputy Yvonne Burford, president of the Scrutiny Management Committee, said: "This review will focus on the current policies and procedures of the States of Guernsey in regard to the recruitment and retention of its workforce and consider whether these are efficient and value for money for the public purse."
