Thousands of people are expected to attend the annual Royal Manx Agricultural Show later.

The two-day farming celebration, which is held on Friday and Saturday, has attracted large crowds since it was first established in 1979.

Livestock, classic cars, vintage tractors and machinery as well as gymnastics and craft displays will take over Staward Farm in Sulby.

John Teare, president of Royal Manx for 2010, said it would "be fantastic".

Mr Teare, who follows in the footsteps of his father who was president in 1982, said: "When I was asked to take it on I thought very hard and long about it.

"It's obviously an honour to be president of the Royal Manx, it's been hard work but very enjoyable, and I have met a lot of interesting people."

There will also be animal competition classes as well as a falconry show, Welsh woodcutters and Manx Food Theatre.
