Isle of Man independent living centre opens in Douglas

A new Isle of Man community centre to support independent living has opened in Douglas.

The facility, based at Westmoreland Road, will open on the first Wednesday of every month between 0930 and 1530.

Run by occupational therapists, the project aims to offer advice on tasks such as meal preparation and mobility.

Health Minister David Anderson said: "The aim is to promote independent living for adults and children with physical and or sensory impairments."

He added: "It will also provide information to carers and professionals and anyone concerned with disability".

Independent Living Centres are already well established in the UK and it is thought the Isle of Man opening brings local support into line.

The government said no appointment was needed to attend the centre.
