Chief minister nominees to go online before elections

The names of nominees for the position of chief minister in the Isle of Man will go online before voting on 11 October.

Tynwald court will be summoned to a public sitting that day at 10:30 BST to elect a politician into the role.

Proposals, which can only be made by Tynwald members, are to be made in writing by 17:30 on 4 October.

The names will then be posted on the Tynwald website after being circulated to all political members.

Castletown MHK Tony Brown has held the position of chief minister since 2006.

After 35 years in public service, Tony Brown said in July that the time was right for him to step down from Manx politics.

All politicians successful in the general election on 29 September will be sworn in to the House of Keys on 4 October.
