Isle of Man election candidate accused of false statement

A candidate due to stand in the Isle of Man General Election has appeared in court accused of making a false statement on his nomination paper.
Nigel Dobson, 59, the Liberal Vannin candidate for the Garff constituency, did not enter a plea when he appeared at Douglas Court House earlier.
The case was adjourned by magistrates until 12 October.
Winston Taylor, Returning Officer for Garff, confirmed that voting would take place in the constituency on Thursday.
He said in a statement: "Registered voters are going to the polls in all 15 of the island's constituencies, with polling stations open from 8am to 8pm."
Mr Dobson, from Baldrine, will contest the seat currently held by Steve Rodan.
The Liberal Vannin Party has put forward 10 candidates in the Isle of Man elections.
