Isle of Man roadworks set to begin

A series of road improvement schemes around the Isle of Man will get under way on Monday, according to the Department of Infrastructure.

The junction at Saddle Road in Douglas will be closed with a one-way system in place between Millmount Industrial Estate and Ballaughton Close.

After 10 days, traffic lights will replace the road closure for a further period of 10 days for the next phase.

A major maintenance scheme is also due to start on Monday in Onchan.

There will be temporary traffic lights on the main road through the village. Buses will operate as normal.

Reduce flooding risk

A three-week project to improve drainage in Sulby is also due to begin on 5 September.

The main road between Ginger Hall and the Sulby Bridge will be closed between 08:00 BST and 16:00 BST from the 5 September.

School buses will still have access to take children to and from Sulby school.

When the road is closed the diversion will be via St Judes.

Director of Highways Richard Pearson said the work will involve the installation of drainage pipes across the road close to the entrance to the Carrick Park Estate.

"The installation will reduce the risk of flooding in the estate during periods of very heavy rainfall and supplement the installation of the gully system, which was installed from the Ginger Hall down to the Carrick Park some months ago."

Once the project is complete the road will be completely resurfaced from the Sulby Bridge to the Rollick Road.
