Isle of Man TT circuit preparations under way

Work has begun to prepare the Isle of Man TT circuit for June's festival.

Auto-Cycle Union (ACU) representatives recently identified about 300 minor faults which need addressing after heavy snow fall in March.

The Hairpin, the Bungalow and the Gooseneck all need repair work to bring the surface up to race standards.

Director of highways Richard Pearson said the full extent of damage will not be known until all the snow has melted.

He added: "We estimate the work will cost in the region of £200,000, but because the snow hasn't disappeared completely, there are some areas which are still not visible.

"There will be two more inspections before the races actually start."

The government said parts of the TT circuit will be closed during May to complete the work in time for TT practice sessions, due to begin on 24 May.

On several parts of the TT course, racers will exceed speeds of 200mph.
