Manx Grand Prix 2014: Stephen McIlvenna died from multiple injuries

A motorcycle racer died from injuries sustained in a crash while practising for the Manx Grand Prix, an inquest has heard.

Stephen McIlvenna, 40, from Randalstown, County Antrim, crashed on the Mountain Mile section of the TT course on Tuesday.

Coroner Jayne Hughes told Douglas courthouse he suffered multiple injuries in the crash.

The inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

Mr McIlvenna, a self-employed painter and decorator, was described by race organisers as an "experienced and talented competitor."

He had been racing in the Manx Grand Prix for nine years and was a previous winner at the Isle of Man event.

Mrs Hughes sent her condolences to his family and released his body to his family.

The court heard that police investigations into the crash were ongoing.
