The former Governor of Bermuda has been named as the Isle of Man's 30th Lieutenant Governor.
Sir Richard Gozney will succeed Adam Wood who steps down in April next year after five years in the position.
The Oxford-educated father-of-two said he felt "privileged" to be chosen and had "fallen in love" with the island.
The post of Lieutenant Governor is appointed by HM The Queen as the representative of the Crown in the Isle of Man.
"I fell for your island when I visited a few years ago, and my wife, Diana, and I are both hugely looking forward to meeting the people of the island," he said.
Mr Gozney recently retired from the British Diplomatic Service after a distinguished career which culminated as the Governor of Bermuda in 2012.
The 64-year-old's previous positions include British Ambassador to Indonesia and British High Commissioner to Nigeria.
He has also worked as a diplomat in numerous countries including Indonesia, Nigeria and Argentina.
