The £6m Mannin Hotel is the first new Douglas hotel to open in 15 years

Twenty-four new jobs have been created following the opening of the first new hotel in Douglas for 15 years.

The four-star Mannin Hotel on Broadway in Douglas opened its doors on Friday following a £6m investment.

It offers 54 bedrooms and was built on the site of original Mannin and Broadway hotels which date back to the 1880s.

Hotel Director Keith Lord said it comes at a time when more people are taking their holidays closer to home.

He added: "Tourism on the island suffered a decline because people chose to go to warmer places than the Isle of Man.

"Things are changing - many people, myself included, don't like long-haul flights, so we are hoping they will come here instead."

There are currently 15 hotels in the Isle of Man, 56 bed and breakfasts and 330 self-catering properties.
