A tourist from the Isle of Man has been found dead on a beach in Thailand, according to local media.

The Phuket News said Scott Robert Townsend, from Douglas, was pulled from the water on Patong Beach, which is on Phuket's west coast, on Friday.

The 37-year-old, who had been due to fly home from the island on Saturday, had been on holiday with friends.

The Foreign Office said it was "assisting the family of a British man who sadly died in Patong, Thailand".

Mr Townsend's cause of death has not yet been established.

Tributes to him have appeared on social media.

One friend wrote: "Devastating news. So tragic. Another absolutely smashing lad taken far too soon."

Another added: "I am absolutely gutted to hear this news, Scott Townsend was a great friend."
