Fallen trees have blocked roads, including at Westwood near Kirk Michael

Heavy rain and gale force winds brought by Storm Francis have caused travel disruption on the Isle of Man.

The A3 was closed for several hours between Kirk Michael and St John's after the Rhenass river burst its banks at the Black Dub, near Glen Helen.

Mill Road in Peel and the A27 between the Round Table and Niarbyl were also closed due to flooding.

Gusts brought down trees in several areas, including one which fell on a car parked on Leodest Road in Andreas.

The car was unoccupied at the time and no-one was injured.

High water levels in the Sulby River led to the closure of Bernaharra Road between its junctions with Lezaye Road and Jurby Road, and Garey Ford remained "impassable", the Department of Infrastructure said.

A spokesman said Bernaharra Road would stay shut until 09:00 BST on Wednesday.

The road at Injebreck and Slieu Whallian Road will also remain closed due to flooding.

Roads were blocked at Tholt Y Will near Sulby, Balaspur in German and Westwood near Kirk Michael, but have since been cleared.

An amber weather warning was in force throughout the morning, with up to 2.7ins (70mm) of rain falling on high ground during the period.
